Do you love a good theme? Me too! Every month, the soThis book club has a different theme. Our theme for September is “The Restaurant.” I personally love to eat out, and have always been intrigued about what goes on behind the scenes at a restaurant – especially after getting hooked on the TV series The Bear this summer.
It’s not too late to start our September book club pick, Marrying the Ketchups, which is about, you guessed it – a restaurant! Start reading today and join the book club so you can participate in our Zoom discussion with the author on 9/29.
Each month, we also have a special guest speaker. This month it will be my friend Kerry Fitzmaurice. Kerry will share her experience founding Pure Grit BBQ, a vegan fast casual brand and restaurant. Speaking of Pure Grit, we will be having an in-person meet-up there for lunch on 9/21. RSVP here to join us.
Here are a few other books that I’ve been digging lately…
Vacationland by Meg Mitchell Moore
The summer doesn’t have to be over with this easy-to-read family drama that has been called “as sophisticated and delicious as lobster bisque.” This novel gets bonus points if you love Maine, you are raising a family in Brooklyn, and you appreciate stories of forgiveness.
The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles
This is a big (almost 600 pages), beautiful book with a gorgeous story. It gets bonus points if you like intersecting stories, the male perspective (not enough ladies here!), and tales of travel plans gone awry.
Yerba Buena by Nina Lacour
This debut adult novel from an award-winning YA author takes a bit to build. But, I was rooting for the 2 women who are on a star-crossed journey towards each other. Bonus points if you like sad girl stories, California, and bespoke cocktails.
Happy reading!
